We know it’s early, but here is information about Graduation, 2019

Things to know about the 2019 Herman Intermediate Graduation

ALL STUDENTS WILL ATTEND SCHOOL JUNE 13th 8:05 - 10:30 AM

• Date & Time:  The Herman Intermediate Graduation is on Thursday, June13th at 12pm on the field at Oak Grove High School located at 285 Blossom Hill Road .  Students need to arrive at 11:30am sharp to line up.

• Parking:  The on-site parking is primarily for disabled parking.  Most families will need to park on the street so we suggest carpooling whenever possible.  San Jose Police Department will be directing traffic and assisting with the parking around campus.

• Drop-off & Pick-up:  Students need to be dropped off by 11:30am dressed in their gowns.  Students may not be carrying anything with them such as flowers, balloons, cell phones, books, hats, etc.  All items will be taken away.  Students can be picked up after they exit the ceremony.

• Seating:  All graduates will be seated in chairs on the field provided by the school.  All spectators will be seated in the bleachers surrounding the field. There are a limited amount of disabled seating that will be available on a first come first serve basis.

• Dress Code:  Royal blue gowns are required.  Students should be dressed appropriately under their gowns.  Students will have to walk a fair amount across grass and climb stairs so their shoes need to be appropriate.  Red shoes and clothing are not allowed.  See the school handbook for all dress code rules which apply.  Students who purchased gowns will receive them on Wednesday, June 6th.

• Conduct:  Graduation is an academic acknowledgement of your child’s accomplishment.  No horns, noise makers of any kind can be used during the ceremony.  Balloons are not allowed and will be removed by security.

• Professional photographs will be available for purchase at the website listed inside the program.

Due to weather conditions, we will be postponing tonight’s Honor’s Night.  Due to the number of students being honored and their family we cannot safely accommodate everyone in the gym and keep the students dry.  We regret that we have to postpone the event but safety is our number one priority.  We will hold Honor’s Night on Wednesday, March 13th in the gym 5:45 check in for 5th and 7th and 6:45 check in for 6th and 8th.  We want to be able to properly celebrate your child’s success and holding the event in March allows us to run the event to full capacity.  Thank you.

If your child received a green invitation to honor’s night last week, we look forward to seeing you tonight.  Due to the forecast of rain thIS evening we will be modifying how the event takes place.  Families will first report to the cafeteria to pick up their students certificates and to check in for 5th and 7th grades is at 5:45, the event will be at 6pm.  Check in for 6th and 8th grade is at 6:45 in the cafeteria.  Students will remain in the cafeteria (except from highest honors who will be seated in the first few rows of seats in the gym), others will line up in their designated area in the cafeteria with their postcard only, families need to take the certificate and head to the gym.  Due to student seating in the gym because of weather, family seating is extremely limited.  After students receive their awards, they will return to the cafeteria where they may be picked up after the event. We apologize in advance for the poor weather conditions that are may limit seating for families.

5th & 7th Grade Ceremony - 6:00 PM - Students must check in at the Gym at 5:45 PM

6th & 8th Grade Ceremony - 7:00 PM - Students must check in at the Gym at 6:45 PM

STUDENTS MUST BRING GREEN INVITATION THAT THEY WERE GIVEN ON THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7TH.

We are reaching out to our Herman/AdVENTURE parents for assistance in making this event month's Student of the Month Awards Luncheon amazing. We're working hard to continue to encourage our students to be the best they can be. In order to accomplish a successful luncheon, we need your help. We are looking for a few simple donations for our Valentine themed luncheon and your school spirit to shine!

This month we will be hosting a student awards luncheon on February 13th, 2019 for each of the students being honored for January's Student of the Month. Award winners are able to bring a friend with them to the luncheon.  We will be hosting lunch and serving pizza, peanut free desserts, individual bags of chips, fruit, and water. It should really be a great time. We always want to create an environment where we can celebrate our student's success here at Herman and AdVENTURE.

All award winners will be receiving a Student of the Month award certificate, Herman felt flag, Patriots pencil,  and a free book. Any help you might be able to provide in making this lunch extra special is very much appreciated.

If you would like to help donate towards our Student of the Month luncheon, we'd greatly appreciate your contribution.

Internet and Social Media Awareness

The internet is a growing part of our lives, and students are being exposed to a wide range of content as they work and play online.  As a school we are continuing to educate students about the risks posed by irresponsible use of the internet.  We encourage every parent to be a part of proactive efforts to help our youth use their social media accounts in a safe and responsible way.  Students also play an important role in alerting their parents and school administrators to any suspicious online behavior that they witness.  Here are a few tips for students and parents to keep in mind as they spend time online.

Students

  • Don’t make irresponsible, frightening or threatening posts on your online accounts as they will likely result in serious legal and school disciplinary action.
  • NEVER forward or re-post an inappropriate or threatening post or message that you see or receive online. Instead, report that post and/or message to an adult and/or school staff member immediately.
  • Encourage your friends to be responsible internet and social media users.

Parents

  • Be familiar with your child’s online activity, including all social media accounts. Don’t be afraid to “follow” or “friend” your kids on their personal social media channels.
  • Talk to your kids regularly about their use of the internet and social media, and create a safe environment for your children to report internet activity or online posts/messages that make them uncomfortable.
  • Be aware of the consequences (legal and school-based) of inappropriate use of the internet, including forwarding or re-posting of inappropriate or threatening content, to your child and your family.
  • Report inappropriate or threatening online content immediately to law enforcement or school staff.

Parents – Please be respectful of traffic and signs when dropping off and picking up students.  There are specific lanes in the front of school drive-through area for dropping off/picking up, passing and for making left and right turns upon exiting.  We also ask that students not be dropped off in the middle of the street, as this is a safety issue.  Thank you, we appreciate your assistance in making this a safe area for our students.
